Siemens Gamesa helps Egypt’s renewable energy drive with West Bakr Wind project

Lekela-owned facility, 30km north-west of Ras el Ghareb in the Gulf of Suez, will produce over 1,000GWh per year

Siemens Gamesa will install 96 SG 2.6-114 turbines in Egypt to create a 250MW wind farm.

The clean energy West Bakr Wind project is set to be fully operational by 2021, with the first turbines in place by mid-2020.

The Power Purchase Agreement and Network Connection Contract was signed by Lekela with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the New and Renewable Energy Company Authority.

The Lekela-owned facility, situated 30km north-west of Ras el Ghareb in the Gulf of Suez, will produce over 1,000GWh per year, powering over 350,000 homes and saving around 550,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
