Water infrastructure firm ACCIONA has marked the cornerstone ceremony of the Shuqaiq-3 desalination plant on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia.

Representatives from co-developer Marubeni Corporation, Almar Water Solutions through Abdul Latif Jameel CDC and Rawafid Alhadarah Holding Co were also in attendance for the milestone event.

Utilities Middle East reports that Shuqaiq-3 is scheduled for completion in 2021 and will be one of Saudi Arabia's largest seawater desalination plants.

The project will guarantee the supply of drinking water to more than 1.8million citizens, thus contributing to the economic and industrial development of the kingdom.
