European Medicines Agency says vaccine could arrive in 12 months

The European Medicines Agency has said a coronavirus vaccine could “optimistically” get though testing in a year.

The agency is in dialogue with 33 developers and is looking at a potential 115 different treatments, Reuters has reported.

EMA head Marco Cavaleri said: “"For vaccines, since the development has to start from scratch ... we might look from an optimistic side in a year from now, so beginning of 2021."

Approximately 300,000 people have died because of the global health pandemic, according to World Health Organisation data.
