I don’t think anyone could have predicted the global upheaval that has dominated the months since I last penned an MEP Middle East Awards welcome note.
The previous edition of the prizegiving – one of the most important dates in the MEP calendar – seems like it took place in a different world... and quite honestly we can say it did.
As we prepare to toast the men, women and companies who have excelled despite the well-documented hardships of 2020, we must all remember to maintain perspective.
Margins may have shrunk and projects delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but through it all the UAE has demonstrated a togetherness and eagerness to overcome obstacles that many countries would envy.
What is imperative is that this united front does not falter as things steadily return to a ‘new normal’.
Why should it be that open dialogue around the issues stifling the construction industry and the MEP and HVAC sector within it be reserved only for times of adversity?
Why can’t companies of all sizes collaborate and share ideas to maximise efficiency as part of a standard best-practice model?
I hope that the MEP Middle East Awards later this month – 30 September if the date isn’t already in your diary (which it should be) – help underline the importance of community within our sector.
Competition is healthy, rivalry too. But let’s all make sure that the end goal of the race is to provide better products, better solutions, and better services.
