Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, is one of the first consultants in the Middle East to receive British Standards Institution (BSI) Kitemark for Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 certification, thus demonstrating successful integration of the BIM approach into the processes throughout the entire lifecycle of the projects.

Paul Bogan, market director, Digital Asset Management and Operations, said: “Atkins remains at the forefront of digital transformation in the industry, driven by the need to create value for our clients, partners and overall supply chain. BIM is an important aspect of this digital revolution, as it redefines and challenges the ways we design, construct and operate infrastructure and buildings. We are not only proud to have embraced digital development but implementing it in line with the best practices and in compliance with high quality and safety standards. The Kitemark verification reinforces the capability of our people, systems and processes and provides further confidence to our clients that we’re among the best in the business.”

The Kitemark for BIM Level 2 certification helps organisations, as well as their supply chains, demonstrate that the building projects and assets are in line with UK Government’s BIM Level 2 condition of contract, which requires adopting fully collaborative 3D BIM, with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic for improved carbon performance, predictable planning and reduction in CAPEX, risk, delivery and operational costs. It also proves that the organisation has taken necessary measures to manage the security risks that affect a built asset in whole or in part, asset data and information.

Bogan added: “Lack of coordination, planning and scheduling, slow decision-making and poor communication are the primary drivers behind prolonged and unbudgeted costs in project delivery. The BIM process provides the transparency needed to inform decision-making with a level of consistency and collaboration throughout the design and construction process. As one of the pioneers in BIM implementation, the technology is at the core of Atkins’ digital DNA, which forms the bedrock of our engineering and asset management services.”

Atkins has been involved in more than 50 projects around the world where BIM has been applied successfully, thus reducing operating and energy costs, increasing asset value and enhancing customer satisfaction. In the UAE, Atkins applies its BIM expertise to major projects, including Dubai Route 2020, Water’s Edge residential development on Yas Island, Dubai Airports BIM Strategy and DAMAC BIM Integration.
