Eurovent Middle East launched its first event called ‘HVACR Consultant Leadership Workshops’ that took place in Dubai on 25 September 2017.
The workshop was tailor-made for local engineering and MEP consultants in the UAE and saw 232 people of the regional HVACR community and Dubai authorities participating.
The programme included a few presentations and a panel discussion covering issues such as commissioning, life cycle costs, refrigerants, indoor air quality and environmental efficiency.
During one of the presentations, Morten Schmelzer, executive director Eurovent Association (Brussels, Belgium), spoke on the importance of energy efficiency: "Why should we build energy-efficient products? Because buildings are responsible for around 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions."
Schmelzer spoke about the main drivers for energy efficiency in the UAE, which are the need to diversify power sources away from oil, reduction in energy subsidies, and legislation in some HVACR areas.
Erick Melquiond, president Eurovent Certita Certification (Paris, France), later spoke about Eurovent certification and labelling, and its benefits. He said: "We are certifying and focusing on performance of products. We want to make sure that the number you are using for your calculation is correct."
Brian Suggitt, Eurovent Middle East chairman, later stated: "With our initial event, we were able to further raise the profile of Eurovent Middle East as an association within the region and to stimulate interest for future events for the HVACR community."
