Abegail Habunal of BK Gulf was crowned Electrical Engineer of the Year.
Judges said that Habunal had showcased her “exceptional technical skill in design and construction management” across low-voltage systems in commercial buildings to high-voltage systems in infrastructure projects.
Upon receiving the award, Habunal said: “We came here to celebrate with our industry peers and every year we are looking forward to this event. The chance of being nominated and then shortlisted was more than enough and winning this award is just overwhelming.”
One judge said: “She is a lead engineer who has solid technical background both in design and construction management and also has a high level ability to resolve site technical issues during and post construction.”
Another said she was “without doubt the highest quality nominee of all those submitted” and shows “clarity of purpose and closely mentors her juniors, while providing encouragement across many technical aspects including BIM and electrical calculations”.
In the last 12 months she worked on the engineering of major projects such as The Dubai Opera House, the restoration of Address Downtown Dubai and recently Container Terminal 4 Project at Jebel Ali Port.
Habunal said: “Dubai Opera is one of those once-in-a-lifetime projects you get a chance to work on, not only for me but for our entire team. MEP industry in the region is really vast and some of the projects that are being developed here are just beyond imagination.”
