Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has handed a $561.6m Long Term Maintenance Programme (LTMP) deal to look after six gas turbines and power generators at its biggest power and desalination plant in Jebel Ali to Siemens.

Siemens will provide the manpower, equipment, tools and spare parts required to overhaul the turbines and generators at the M-Station at Jebel Ali, guaranteeing that they will remain fit-for-operation for 100,000 man-hours.

“The total cost of the contract is AED2.063bn ($561.6m) and will last for 12-15 years,” said DEWA's CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

“This contract will greatly contribute to achieving the highest levels of operational availability and reliability, especially during the summer months.

"Furthermore, it will reduce the manpower required for performing maintenance of these gas turbines and generators, and it will have a positive impact on the environment by enhancing efficiency and subsequently reduce gas emissions,” he added.

DEWA said that it started to implement strategic maintenance deals at the plant in 2008, with an initial deal covering the L2 station. The contract for The firm added that the two strategic maintenance deals were the biggest of their kind in the world.

Siemens said the contracts were intended to "enhance overall plant reliability and provide additional technical and financial benefits to DEWA", providing more predictable maintenance costs and extended warranty coverage, as well as the supply of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) spare parts and professional outage management.

Randy Zwirn, CEO of Siemens' energy service division, said: “We are pleased to announce these contracts with DEWA, one of our most important customers in the Middle East.

"DEWA is committed to operating its plants with the highest efficiency and lowest operating costs, and we are honored they chose Siemens as their partner for this long-term service agreement

"The Middle East is a region of high importance for Siemens Energy and a prime market that helps us sustain strong growth in our global aervice business.”
