Trane, the international HVAC equipment provider, will install its packaged air conditioning systems with a ‘rugged microchannel aluminium coil’ to increase their reliability and sustainability.

The move comes as the manufacturer aims to replace the older copper and aluminium tube and fin condenser coils in their units. The microchannel coils reduce refrigerant charges by as much as 50%, thereby creating a healthier and greener environment.

“The new microchannel enables these highly efficient systems to further optimise performance and reliability, while also increasing sustainability,” said Shane Wood, product manager at Trane. “The microchannel coil can help companies meet corporate commitments to sustainability and LEED requirements,” he added.

The systems that feature the microchannel coils include the Voyager II (12.5 to 25 tons), Voyager Commercial (27 to 50 tons) and the IntelliPak line (20 to 75 tons). Additional large rooftop platforms will follow later this year.

The microchannel systems feature engineering modifications which simplifies coil handling, protects the coil from handling damage and safeguards it from thermal cyclic fatigue stresses.

Wood added that all rooftop packaged air conditioning systems that feature the microchannel condenser will meet the LEED-BCEAc4-Enhanced Refrigerant Management requirements.
