The topic of value engineering and sustainability is an interesting one and it will be discussed at the upcoming fifth annual MEP UAE Conference on 24 April 2019 at Grosvenor House Dubai.
Creating quality, reliability and durability are the main goals for any projects, but how do we make the process more efficient? Over the last year, we have been hearing about value engineering and the purpose of implementing this is not just about cost-cutting but also on optimising a design, identifying alternatives which result in the end product being more beneficial to the stake holders. This also needs an organised effort from the full team to achieve the goal of the project that includes certified value specialist, design team, cost estimators, construction managers. In parallel to this, we also need to consider that the Middle East generally has an extreme climate, which means high salinity, humidity and the occasional sandstorms, so the design team has to make this the first risk factor while in the discussion of identifying alternatives for cost saving.
The other topic will be on modular construction and prefabrication. With each contractor considering a huge cut on labour cost and hit their timelines, partnering with prefabricators are now being the only solution to move forward. Several MEP firms are already adopting prefabrication as the ideal form of building construction.
The event will bring together more than 150 government bodies, developers, MEP contractors, consultants, engineers and architects.
