A new joint venture will introduce innovative coatings for big and small pipelines, flanges, casings, underwater pillars and pipeline repair in the Middle East.

This follows the announcement by Stopaq Europe BV of a new production facility in Saudi Arabia. The plant will manufacture Stopaq’s patented viscous-elastic corrosion prevention coating. Operating under the name Stopaq Saudi, this company is a JV between major oil and gas supplier Alsuwaiket Group and Stopaq Europe BV from Stadskanaal, The Netherlands.

The viscous-elastic corrosion prevention coating is used for the new construction and rehabilitation of large-diameter transport pipelines within the oil, gas and water industry. The coating is environmentally safe, both during production and installation in the field.

To ensure a successful application, the anti-corrosion compound comes in a wrapping-band shape. The coating does not become hard and always stays in a fluid state, making detachment impossible. Due to its extraordinary cold-flow characteristics, the compound can also be applied in high and low temperatures. Any gaps or cracks in the surface close automatically. The coating even attaches to substrates of polyethylene and polypropylene.

The opening of the new facility, located on the King Abdul Aziz Seaport Highway in Dammam, was conducted by Abdullah Alsuwaiket; FPM Nooren, owner of Stopaq Europe BV; JF Doddema, MD of Stopaq Europe BV; J Wakim, MD of Stopaq Saudi; and His Excellency R Strikker, the Dutch ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Partners and clients involved in the opening of the new production facility included Saudi Aramco, Sabic, SWCC and BASF.

“This expansion is an important milestone for Stopaq Europe,” commented Doddema. Partners and clients involved in the opening of the new production facility included Saudi Aramco, Sabic, SWCC and BASF. “Before opening our new plant, we were honored to be invited to participate in the Coating Research and Development Programme by Saudi Aramco, one of the largest oil companies in the world.

“Moving forward, Stopaq Europe hopes to create a more in-depth R&D collaboration with regard to finding solutions for corrosion problems,” added Doddema.

“Stopaq Europe and the Alsuwaiket Group have a longstanding, productive partnership. Our coatings provide clients with a quick application, and offer the highest assurance of superior performance,” said Nooren.
